Caring for our communities during pandemic

Reaching out to more than 1,25,000 individuals through various initiatives

Case Study

At the onset of 2020, as the world witnessed the spread of viral pandemic of unprecedented scale, like several other nations of the world, India too braced up to withstand the challenge and minimise its impact. Sembcorp has joined the nation's efforts to respond to this pandemic by helping the marginalised sections of the society that are most impacted. Through a series of initiatives across nine states, the company has reached out to nearly 25,000 families so far.

As part of the preventive measures, awareness campaigns were undertaken within communities to emphasise on social distancing, the need to wear face masks and maintaining good hygiene practices. These messages were conveyed through awareness building measures, using posters in prominent places within the local villages in and around its areas of operations. Sanitisation drives were organised across 24 villages to minimise the spread of the pandemic.

Sembcorp also joined hands with Zomato Feeding India and KVN Foundation to provide meal packets across multiple locations. In addition, dry rations have been provided in 56 villages around our operations across the country. So far, 18.7 tons rice, 30.7 tons wheat and 63,000 meals have been distributed.

Women from the local communities trained at the Sembcorp Entrepreneurship Development Centre (SEDC) in Nellore, are continuing to do their bit by making hand-stitched, eco-friendly and reusable cloth face-masks. A total of 10,000 face masks made at SEDC will be distributed amongst communities across Sembcorp’s areas of operations.

Sembcorp Energy India is committed to working closely with its communities to improve the quality of life and empower them in an all-encompassing manner. The company has maintained sustained engagements with its communities through several focused interventions such as regular medical camps and preventive healthcare awareness programmes at regular intervals throughout the year. These programmes have and continue to help make a positive impact on the local communities.
